SO exciting
This looks SO exciting . . . is there a storyline or is it just a dance show?

Flamenco Flamen'ka is a showcase of fantastic Spanish dance with an interwoven storyline about a bitter love triangle, driven by energetic and passionate music and dance. It's pretty eclectic with music from The Impossible Dream to Bolero, so it's bound to have you on your feet. It completely sold its run in Paris, so should be a real success here too.

I went to see this show on Friday night. It's good, but not great; admittedly the dancing is breathtaking. I don't know that much about Flamenco, so I think I'm quite a good example of the typical viewer for this show. I was expecting to enjoy the women's dancing the most, but actually it was the men that blew me away - so powerful. The musicians also were incredible, worth going to see it for them alone. Unfortunately I thought Flamenco Flamen'ka lacked narrative and any solid storyline, and seemed poorly written. It's quite repetitive and I don't think the characters are well enough established in order for you to feel the passion, and this makes it hard to really buy into it. At times, the audience didn't seem sure as to whether it was trying to be comical! It's worth seeing, but they should maybe have focused on it as a dance piece and avoided the temptation to create a musical for the west end.
