Jill Halfpenny stars in Lindsay Posner’s revival of Mike Leigh’s Abigail’s Party at the Menier Chocolate Factory. The former Legally Blonde the Musical actress takes the iconic role of suburban housewife ‘Beverly Moss’ who invites her new neighbours, Angela and Tony, over for drinks and savoury snacks. The evening begins in awkwardly reserved middle-class fashion, until the alcohol starts flowing and passions flare with unfortunate and hilarious consequences. Abigail’s Party was first performed in 1977 at the Hampstead Theatre. The original cast included Alison Steadman as ‘Beverly’ and Tim Stern as her husband ‘Lawrence’.
