Artifact is a ballet in four parts featuring the music of J.S. Bach and scenography, lighting, costumes and choreography by William Forsythe. The work was created by Forsythe after he became the director of the Frankfurt Ballet in 1984 and underlined his reputation as a choreographer who was transforming ballet from its classical repertoire into a dynamic modern art form. The Royal Ballet of Flanders (led by Forsythe’s long-time collaborative partner Kathryn Bennetts) brings the work to Sadler’s Wells. The company earned the Olivier Award for Outstanding Achievement in Dance in 2009.
