Rodgers and Hammerstein’s classic musical Carousel has been named by New York’s Time magazine as the best musical of the 20th century, and it is not hard to see why.

Full of classic standards such as June is Bustin’ Out All Over, If I Loved You and the timeless anthem You’ll Never Walk Alone, the lively Carousel also deals with issues such as prejudice, social class and domestic violence. When unpredictable carousel barker Billy Bigelow loses his job, he takes his frustration out on his pregnant wife, Julie Jordan. Driven to drastic measures to provide for his child by anger and criminal friends, Billy’s chance to put things right can only be granted by the highest judge of all.

Revived countless times since its first staging in New York in 1945, productions of Carousel have won hundreds of awards internationally and Richard Rodgers even named it as his favourite of all the musicals he had been involved with.

This new production, the second London revival of Carousel, stars diva Lesley Garrett as Nettie and previews will begin on 21st or 22nd November 2008. Carousel officially opens on 2nd December.
