About Enjoy
Enjoy is the witty yet touching story of middle aged couple Connie and Wilf, who are living in Leeds’ last back-to-back street. With the demolition of their area and dissolution of their tight knit community in progress, they are soon to be re-housed in a modern maisonette with a waste disposal unit and non-slip vinyl flooring. When a sociologist comes to observe them in their daily life, normality takes a decidedly atypical turn.
Enjoy is Alan Bennett’s tenth play, with the concept of forced redevelopment considered surreal and strange when first staged in 1980. However, a slight revision, changing times and enlightened audiences have meant that this revival starring Gavin and Stacey’s Alison Steadman and stage veteran David Troughton has attracted rave reviews on its pre-West End UK tour.
