Set in 1912, Long Day’s Journey into Night tells the story of the Tyrones, a family on the edge of disaster who must come to terms with their own problems before they can help each other.
The head of the family is James Tyrone (David Suchet), a 65-year-old actor who has built his reputation with one touring play but is now caught up with financial troubles. His wife, Mary, is a recovering morphine addict who is anxious about the future. Their son, Edmund, has growing health problems and is awaiting a diagnosis for his constant coughing. His sibling, Jamie, worries about their mother relapsing into drug addiction and is angry that the family hid her condition from him. As day turns to night, each battles their demons, their pasts and one-another as the family drifts ever closer to the abyss.
David Suchet was last seen in the West End in a hugely successful revival of Arthur Miller’s ‘All My Sons’, winning a Critics’ Circle Award for Best Actor.
