Love Never Dies: The Phantom Sequel

Billed as Andrew Lloyd Webber’s ‘greatest challenge’ Love Never Dies is the long-awaited sequel to box office record breaker The Phantom of the Opera, scheduled to open at the Adelphi theatre in February 2010.

All previous bids to make a follow-up to a successful musical have failed but Love Never Dies is going all-out to break the trend. Phantom is one of the most successful shows of all time, still going strong after 23 years and over 9,000 performances in London. Not a bad place to start when looking to make a sequel.

It is 1907 and Christine Daaé arrives in New York with her husband Raoul and their son Gustave. The famed soprano has received an offer to perform at Coney Island, the new playground for the rich and carefree. Amongst the amusements and sideshows Christine discovers the identity of the anonymous impresario who has lured her across the ocean.

Based on the novel The Phantom of Manhattan by Frederick Forsyth, Love Never Dies moves the action ten years forward from the dramatic events at the Paris Opera House.

With stunning designs, new songs and a fabulous score, this new musical promises to be ‘a rollercoaster ride of obsession and intrigue’.
