About The Norman Conquests
Reg and his wife Sarah have arrived at Reg’s invalid mother’s house to give Reg’s sister Annie the weekend off. However, Annie stays and their brother in law Norman turns up, followed by his wife, Reg and Annie’s sister Ruth. Annie has her sights set on Mum’s dim-witted neighbour Tom, while lover of life Norman’s intentions are laid bare for all to see.
Round and Round the Garden sees Norman’s plans almost foiled when he is spotted hiding in the bushes in Mum’s garden. Tom and Reg ponder over who Norman’s ‘bit on the side’ could be while his wife Ruth sunbathes.
The Norman Conquests is a series of three interconnecting plays (Round and Round the Garden, Living Together and Table Manners) by Alan Ayckbourn which can be seen in any order, or each can be enjoyed without the others as the events of each happen simultaneously. The six well-rounded and funny characters are present and equal in the whole series, with each play centred around a different area of Mum’s house.
