Sister Act at the London Palladium

Sister Act starring Patina Miller and Ian Lavendar

Sister Act is based on the classic 1992 screen comedy starring Whoopi Goldberg as a club singer who finds herself on the wrong side of the mob and takes on the guise of a nun, Sister Mary Clarence, so she can find safety in a convent.

Since it was first staged in California in 2006, Sister Act has undergone a number of changes and since its inception, differences between the stage and screen version have been drastic. The action has been moved from 1990’s Reno and San Francisco to 1970’s Philadelphia, giving much of Glenn Slater and Alan Menken’s score an authentic disco flavour, as well as the rousing gospel that made the movie such a hit.

At the show’s premiere, the demand for tickets was so huge, the show tripling its intended four week run before embarking on a nationwide tour of the US. Plans for Sister Act’s Broadway transfer are yet to be finalised.

Sister Act boasts an impressive bunch of cast and creatives, starring Sheila Hancock, Ian Lavender and Katie Rowley Jones, and choreographed by Anthony Van Laast, the dance maestro behind Mamma Mia!, Michael Crawford’s Las Vegas spectacular EFX and the cult Sex Pistols movie The Great Rock’n’Roll Swindle.

The London Palladium

As shown in the seating plan below, the large venue is spread over three levels: Stalls, Royal Circle and Upper Circle. The Stalls offer excellent unobstructed views all the way across, however the six rows to the rear suffer from an overhang restriction from the Royal Circle above (rows T to XX). In rows T and U this restriction is minimal. The Royal Circle offers fantastic, clear views throughout. The Seats in the Upper Circle are high and set back from the stage. The view from the front two rows is slightly affected by a handrail (rows A and B). The last two rows do feel ‘up in the Gods’, but views are unobstructed (rows L and M).
