About The Norman Conquests

Reg and his wife Sarah have arrived at Reg’s invalid mother’s house to give Reg’s sister Annie the weekend off. However, Annie stays and their brother in law Norman turns up, followed by his wife, Reg and Annie’s sister Ruth. Annie has her sights set on Mum’s dim-witted neighbour Tom, while lover of life Norman’s intentions are laid bare for all to see.

Table Manners is based in the dining room of the family home. As members of the family continue to show up, not forgetting Tom, Reg’s neurotic wife Sarah tries to organise a civilised dinner but nobody is cooperating and there aren’t six proper chairs.

The Norman Conquests is a series of three interconnecting plays (Table Manners, Round and Round the Garden and Living Together) by Alan Ayckbourn which can be seen in any order, or each can be enjoyed without the others as the events of each happen simultaneously. The six well-rounded and funny characters are present and equal in the whole series, with each play centred around a different area of Mum’s house.
