
The Award-winning Anthony Sher returns to the National Theatre in a new play by Nicholas Wright which pays tribute to the European immigrants who helped to create the Hollywood film industry. At the turn of the 20th century, a young man named Motl Mendl is captivated by the moving images on his father’s cinematograph. Forty years later, he has become an acclaimed film director with a successful life in America. But as he looks back on his early life he must confront the cost of fulfilling his dream, both to himself and those that he left behind. Travelling Light is a funny and fascinating play from the writer of His Dark Materials and Vincent in Brixton.
