The untold story of the Witches of Oz

Join Elphaba and Glinda on a journey that takes you into the heart of Oz. Based on Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West, this new musical is hailed as the prequel to L. Frank Baum’s The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. The spellbinding show tells the incredible untold story of the Witches of Oz and how one came to be called ‘good’ and the other ‘wicked’.

Wicked truly is a show for everyone; a story of friendship, equality, love, politics, good and evil that appeals to all ages. With fantastic music and visual effects that defy belief (and gravity) Wicked is the hottest ticket in town. Forget what you thought you knew about the Wicked Witch of the West; you’ll be rooting for her in the end as over two million London theatregoers have.

The show has a brand new and original score by Stephen Schwartz, whose credits include writing the music and lyrics for the 1971 classic musical Godspell and the lyrics for Disney’s 1995 film Pocahontas. Included in the score are dance numbers, touching ballads and soaring, powerful vocal performances that not only carry the plot effectively but stand as excellent listening on their own.

Already a smash hit on Broadway, Wicked has opened around the world to rave reviews, with productions in Japan, Australia and Germany. The untold story of the Witches of Oz is about to be revealed.

*Lee Mead's first performance will be the 10th May 2010

Lee Mead will be on Holiday on the following dates:

Week commencing 7th June 2010

9th, 10th, 11th August 2010

Week commencing 20th September 2010

Week commencing 29th November 2010

Week commencing 3rd January 2011

Certainly, Wicked has roots in Frank L. Baum’s The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, but many of the concepts from the classic 1939 film are copyrighted by MGM. Look out for clever allusions to Dorothy and her little canine buddy.

Don’t bother queuing for the loo when you get there; the Apollo Victoria is huge and there are a number of facilities throughout the theatre. The ones at the sides of the auditorium are usually free just before the start of the show.

The Apollo Victoria’s stage door is located just down Wilton Road from the theatre's main entrance. If it looks quiet, see if you can meet the cast; signed programmes, posters and flyers go for a fortune on Ebay.

Apollo Victoria Theatre

Originally built as a cinema the auditorium is on two levels: Stalls and Circle, with clear, unobstructed views from all seats. As shown in the seating plan below, the large auditorium offers plenty of choice. In the Stalls rows Q and X have the best legroom. In the Circle price differences reflect height and distance from the stage. Legroom becomes more limited towards the rear of this level.
