Hairspray: The School Musical

Posted by Jack on Wednesday 20th August 2008 at 3:09PM

This autumn, Sky One will broadcast Hairspray: The School Musical, an eight part series following the process of staging the international smash hit musical Hairspray in a school. Denise Van Outen presents as students from Kingsmead Comprehensive in Enfield try out and get cast in what will be the show’s first amateur production. The ‘nicest kids in town’ (who include a girl unfortunately named Bronte) are helped along with the expertise of Any Dream Will Do judge Zoe Tyler, Strictly Dance Fever panellist Stacey Haines and director of the Broadway production of Hairspray Danny Austin. Denise also drags in a few of her celeb pals to offer advice, including her boyfriend Lee Mead and Mary Wilson (the Supreme who isn’t Diana Ross or the dead one) as well as Leanne Jones, Ben James Ellis and Michael Ball from the West End cast of Hairspray.

No official announcements have been made regarding screen dates, but we’ve heard on the grapevine that it should begin early October. Should be a laugh.
