Wicked: flying high into 2009

Posted by Jack on Wednesday 31st December 2008 at 12:33PM

The smash hit musical Wicked has ended 2008 on a gravity defying high as it hit back at the credit crunch with a year-on-year sales increase of over £1 million. In 2008, Wicked took in almost £28 million, making it easily one of London’s highest grossing shows of the year. Since opening in London in September 2006, Wicked has grossed over £65 million. Continuously breaking box office records and often ranking as London’s highest grossing show, Wicked has repeated the success it first found on Broadway, where it is consistently the most popular show.

2009 looks to be equally exciting. A cast overhaul in May will see the return of fantastic Alexia Khadime, who took on the role of Elphaba while current star Kerry Ellis brandished her broomstick on Broadway. Rumours as to who else might be going into the show are currently driving fans wild, with talk of Broadway’s Kendra Kassebaum and Jenna Leigh Green maybe flying in.

Wicked is currently booking until 26 September 2006 and you can get your tickets here.
