Cast change time for Les Mis 22 June

Posted by Jack on Thursday 11th June 2009 at 9:06AM

Les Miserables is to undergo an extensive cast change, with new cast members arriving at the Queens Theatre on 22 June. Newcomers have will play three major characters, Fantine, Marius and Cosette, as well as various ensemble roles.

Rebecca Seale will play the tragic Fantine. Rebecca’s West End credits include Mamma Mia!, understudying and playing the lead role of Sophie in the original London cast. Later, she made her first appearance in Les Miserables as the lovestruck Eponine. She returned to Les Mis last year to understudy the role of Fantine. She takes over the role full time from the departing Allyson Brown.

Any Dream Will Do hopeful Alastair Brammer takes over the role of Marius from Jon Robyns. Although Alastair did not make it to the final, he secured a role in Bill Kenwright’s touring production of Joseph, regularly playing the title role. Katie Hall, another reality TV face, joins the show as Cosette, replacing Leanne Dobinson. Katie was seen on I’d Do Anything, eventually won by Jodie Prenger. She is currently appearing in The Phantom of the Opera.

Further casting is to be announced. Jackie Marks and Jimmy Johnston will depart on 20 June, leaving the roles of the crooked Thenardiers open to speculation. Former Wicked and Mamma Mia! star Martin Ball is rumoured to be taking over the role of the conniving landlord. Alarmingly, talk of Britain’s Got Talent runner up Susan Boyle playing his long suffering wife is being taken rather seriously by theatre fans. Well, she does look a bit like Mme Thenardier I suppose. Book your Les Miserables tickets here.
