Wicked The Musical - Family Favourite

Posted by Joseph on Monday 9th November 2009 at 4:40PM

One of the West End’s most successful musicals of recent years Wicked has yet again won more awards and seen record audience figures.

Best Family Fun

Wicked, the untold story of the Witches of Oz, opened in London’s West End in 2006 and has gone from strength to strength. The annual BT Visit London “People’s Choice Awards” has named the show “Best Family Fun.” The annual awards give the public chance to vote for their favourite things they like to do and see in the capital, giving a true opinion of what’s popular. Wicked fought off strong competition from the London Eye, ZSL London Zoo and the Science Museum.

Not only is the show winning awards but half term week saw the musical playing its fourth highest ever grossing week, taking £807,997 at the Box Office. 20,000 people attended 9 performances of the show. The international hit has now played over 1300 performances and been seen by more than two million theatregoers at London's Apollo Victoria Theatre.

Wicked

The show is based on Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West, Gregory Maguire’s dark prequel to L. Frank Baum’s The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. After a few changes, Winnie Holzman’s book tells the tale of the witches of Oz, Elphaba and Glinda who later become the Wicked Witch of the West and Glinda the Good, and how these two friends came to fill the roles they are known for.

Wicked is a show for everybody; a story of friendship, equality, love, politics, good and evil that appeals to all ages, fantastic music and visual effects that defy belief (and gravity).

Xmas Matinee

Three extra Wicked Christmas matinees have been added on the 22nd, 24th & 29th December, all at 2:30pm. No evening performances on the 24th and 25th December. Don’t miss out on this spell binding show this Christmas, book your tickets here.
