Buddy: The Buddy Holly Story has announced that it is to close on 7 February 2009 prior to a tour of the UK and Ireland. Premiering in London in 1989, Buddy’s initial twelve year run at the Victoria Palace then the Strand Theatre (now the Novello) has made it one of the longest running musicals in West End history. A Broadway production ran for 225 performances in 1990 and 1991.

The show has toured extensively throughout the world, playing in over twenty countries. The current production at the Duchess Theatre is the show that toured the UK in 2006 and 2007, and once again takes to the road after a successful eighteen month reprise in the West End.

This tour will commemorate 50 years since the deaths of Buddy Holly and fellow musicians Ritchie Valens and JP ‘The Big Bopper’ Richardson, with the anniversary falling on Thursday 5 February. Buddy’s last performance at the Duchess Theatre will be on Saturday 7 February 2009. Click here for tickets.
