Birdsong Cast Announced
The cast of the much anticipated stage version of Birdsong, which opens at the Comedy theatre next month, has been announced. The production, directed by Trevor Nunn, is currently booking into January 2011. Based on the best-selling novel by Sebastian Faulks, the play tells the story of a young man, Stephen Wraysford, who embarks on a passionate affair with Isabelle, whilst staying as a guest of her husband, Rene Azaire, a factory owner, in pre-First World War France. A few years later Stephen finds himself back in the region at the Battle of the Somme. As chaos and carnage rage around him, Stephen looks to his love for the strength to continue. |

The Leading SongbirdsBen Barnes (Stephen Wraysford): Barnes is well known for playing the title roles in the films Prince Caspian and Dorian Gray. Nicholas Farrell (Rene Azaire): Farrell appeared as Aubrey Montague in the movie Chariots of Fire. On stage, he has worked extensively with the Royal Shakespeare Company. Iain Mitchell (Berard): Mitchell is a regular at the National Theatre. He recently appeared in the West End musical La Cage Aux Folles. Genevieve O’Reilly (Isabelle): O’Reilly is well known for playing Sarah Caulfield in the BBC spy-drama Spooks. |
Last Chance to See La BêteBirdsong will replace La Bête at the Comedy theatre. The colourful comedy, starring Mark Rylane, Joanna Lumley and David Hyde Pierce, runs until 4 September 2010. |
