Lion Kings 10th Birthday

The Lion King, one of the top selling shows in the West End, celebrated its 10th Birthday yesterday with a star studded gala performance.

Andrew Peterson (UK Tickets Managing Director) pictured above with Simon Vickers the Sales and Ticketing Manager at Disney Theatrical Productions (UK). Both thoroughly enjoyed the show and after party. Original cast member Roger Wright is pictured below, who is currently starring in Thriller-Live at the Lyric Theatre.

The gala performance was attended by the creators of the show and a host of celebrities.
Among the famous faces there was David Cameron with his wife and kids, Cherie Blair and Leo, Lisa Snowdon, Gok Wan, Justin Lee Collins, The cast of Cold Feet, James Earl Jones, Phyicia Rashad, Javine Hylton and The Saturdays’ Vanessa White, who both previously appeared in the production.

After seeing the spectacular show guests were invited to an after party at the Budda Bar. Julie Taymor (Picture below) the Lion Kings costume designer, made a doting speech to all involved and previous cast members sung a collection of songs a cappella.

 

History

The Lion king has delighted young and old for over a decade at the Lyceum theatre in London’s West End. The show which is based on the Oscar-winning Disney film has played more than 4,200 performances to more than 8 million people.


The first Lion King production opened on Broadway in 1997 before its West End transfer two years later. In the last ten years the show has employed more than 225 adult cast members and 64 Children

Story


The Lion King tells the story of a little lion cub Simba who is tricked by his evil uncle Scar that he has killed his father, who just happens to be the king. Simba runs away, meeting many memorable characters along the way. Simba soon learns that running from your problems is not the answer, when is past quickly catches up with him. The show features songs by Elton John and Tim Rice’s that appeared in the original animated film.
