Planer and Rushworth join Hairspray

| Nigel Planer, as already reported by UK Tickets, will take over the role of Wilbur Turnblad, bumbling and lovable husband of Michael Ball’s hilarious, big, blonde and beautiful Edna. | |
 | Verity Rushworth, best known as Emmerdale’s Donna Windsor-Dingle, makes her professional stage debut as Penny Pingleton, Tracy Turnblad’s socially inept best friend. Hairspray marks Verity’s professional stage debut in an acting career comprised of over ten years on Emmerdale and one episode of Heartbeat, while her singing talent was revealed to the nation on ITV’s Soapstar Superstar in 2007. Donna's last scenes in Emmerdale will be screened at the end of this month. Leanne Jones, Ben James-Ellis and Michael Ball will continue in the roles of Tracy, Link and Edna at until April 2009. |
