| Dirty Dancing’s Martin Harvey has seen off tough competition and scooped a prestigious ballet award. Harvey, who took over the lead role of Johnny Castle in September 2008 from Josef Brown, was honoured with the Spotlight Best Male Dancer Classical title at the National Dance Awards on Monday 26 January. | ![]() |
| The accolade recognised the phenomenal 11 year career Harvey enjoyed at the Royal Ballet, during which time he performed in a number of sought after and challenging roles, including Mercutio in Romeo and Juliet, the title role in Onegin and Hilarion in Giselle. In 2004, he was promoted to First Soloist. | |
| Martin Harvey began his stage training with acting lessons at the age of six, but joined the Royal Ballet School at eleven. During his time with the Royal Ballet, though, Harvey spent time with an acting coach and auditioned for the role of Johnny Castle while still a part of the company. Having won the first acting role he had auditioned for came as a shock to the ballet world, and Harvey has not looked back since taking the leap from classical dancer to West End star. | |
| Dirty Dancing is currently booking until October and you can get your tickets here. | |
