UKTickets Review: Dirty Dancing
After seeing the fantastic Burn the Floor last month at the Shaftesbury Theatre, UKTickets felt the need this week for another fix of dance-floor fever. It’s hard to believe that Dirty Dancing is coming up to four years at the Aldwych theatre. With new cast members recently added, including X-Factor star Ray Quinn, it was great to see that ‘the classic story on stage’ is going from strength to strength. |

Dazzling Performers Delight Enthusiastic AudienceSweet but naive seventeen-year old Baby was wonderfully played by Hannah Vassallo, who first joined the show as ensemble but has now stepped up into the lead role with an infectious enthusiasm that sparkled throughout. Newcomer Johnny Wright has brought muscular presence to the role of dance instructor Johnny Castle. A dazzling dancer, Canadian Johnny first performed the role in the Toronto production and he exhilarates here is his West End debut. The show really took off when he was first paired with his ‘regular’ dance partner, the blonde beauty Penny, played brilliantly by Nadia Coote. Paul Gilmore and Hilary MacLean shone as Baby’s parents, Mr and Mrs Houseman; whilst Ray Quinn appeared as effervescent as ever, delighting an enthusiastic audience in the busy role of Johnny’s well-meaning cousin, Billy. |

Iconic Movie’s Lasting AppealWith 55 songs and 73 scene changes, Dirty Dancing on Stage continues to make heroic efforts to recreate the iconic movie, as Frances ‘Baby’ Houseman blossoms from daddy’s girl to precocious young woman, under the guidance of dance instructor, Johnny. With sizzling choreography that continues to impress, and a talented cast oozing sex appeal, this welcome dose of 80s nostalgia will continue to give the many fans the time of their lives for some time to come. |
Don’t forget Dirty Dancing now has a great 5pm Friday show. Why not start your weekend with a brilliant girl’s night out? |
