A Fish Called Wanda the Musical Moves Closer

A musical adaptation of the hit crime-comedy film A Fish Called Wanda has moved closer to production with John Cleese revealing that he has done a deal for the rights with MGM and will be meeting a producer in New York in December after years of wrangling with the Hollywood studio. Speaking to UK comedy guide Chortle, the Monty Python star said that he had already written the book for the show with his daughter Camilla but that musicals take an enormously long time to put together and it was important to get the right people in place - “It’s like the gestation period of an elephant. Someone told me the average is about seven years, so I’m being patient”. |
Murder, Greed, Lust, Revenge and Seafood!A Fish Called Wanda was released in 1988 and stars Michael Palin, Jamie Lee Curtis, Kevin Kline and Tom Georgeson as a mob of Anglo-American criminals who pull off an audacious jewellery heist only to double cross each other with hapless consequences. When the diamonds are hidden away by one of the gang, femme fatale Wanda (Curtis) attempts to seduce an unhappily married lawyer (John Cleese) to find out where they are hidden. Meanwhile, the animal loving Ken (Palin) must silence the only witness to the crime – an elderly lady with three Yorkshire Terriers. The film was nominated for three Academy Awards, with Kevin Kline winning Best Actor in a Supporting Role. Watch the full interview with John Cleese on the Chortle website here. |
