Abba World
Abba World has hit London’s Earl’s Court. Already, fans are flocking from all over the world to take in the most iconic artefacts from their favourite band’s finest moments. |
First Impressions
| As an Abba aficionado, I was lucky enough to go to Abba World on the day it opened. I was mindlessly excited to see the exhibition, but I got more than I ever could have imagined. The exhibition covers 25 rooms, each dedicated to a specific period in Abba’s impressive career. Each of Abba’s nine classic albums has its own section, as have their 1974 Eurovision triumph and two world tours. Some of the most treasured relics from Abba’s history have been donated by band members Anni-Frid Lyngstad, Benny Andersson, Björn Ulvaeus and Agnetha Fältskog. The four have also given exclusive and revealing interviews especially for Abba World, and these are screened at various points throughout the exhibition. All of the band’s most iconic costumes are displayed as well as countless gold discs and awards. |
Recreate
Important scenes are have been painstakingly recreated, such as manager Stig Anderson’s office (complete with Abba umbrella stand), Björn and Benny’s songwriting hut, Agnetha and Frida’s dressing room at Wembley Arena and the band’s very own Polar Music recording studio. If you get tired halfway through, a small mock up of a 1970’s cinema allows you to sit and enjoy the trailer for the mesmerising Abba- The Movie, filmed during the manic Australian leg of their 1977 world tour. |

There are numerous interactive elements, all of them impressively high tech. Scanning your ticket allows you to appear in an Abba video, be pictured on an album cover or even perform on stage with breathtaking Abba holograms. There are also two opportunities to take part in an Abba quiz, and you can also have a go at achieving the perfect mix of an Abba hit. The results of your interactive activities can be downloaded online after your visit.
