The Beatles Musical Backbeat has posted early closing notices at the Duke of York’s Theatre and will now end its West End run on Saturday 18th February 2012 (originally booking until Saturday 24th March). The show is the stage adaptation of Iain Softley’s BAFTA-nominated 1994 film of the same title and follows the fortunes of the world’s most famous band as they leave their home city of Liverpool to hone their sound in the seedy nightclubs of Hamburg, West Germany. All New People – a play written by and starring Scrubs actor Zach Braff - will open at the Duke of York’s Theatre on Wednesday 22nd February 2012. |
The Journey of a LifetimeBackbeat tells the story of the birth of The Beatles and the compelling triangular relationship between Stuart Sutcliffe, a keen artist and the band’s original bass player, his best friend John Lennon and the beatnik photographer Astrid Kirchherr. Sutcliffe eventually left The Beatles, choosing Astrid and art over the music, before losing his life to a brain haemorrhage at the tragic age of 21. Backbeat features many of the all-time rock ‘n’ roll classics covered by The Beatles in their Hamburg days, including Love Me Do, PS I Love You, Twist & Shout, Rock ‘N’ Roll Music, Long Tall Sally, Please Mr Postman and Money. |
