Be Freddie for a Day this September!
![]() |
The ‘Freddie for a Day’ campaign is back next month to mark what would have been the rock legend’s 65th birthday on Monday 5th September 2011. The event is the brainchild of Liz Swanton, web editor of the Mercury Phoenix Trust, the AIDS charity set up in Freddie's name in 1992. It was launched last year by Queen and Freddie Mercury fans around the world who dressed up in some of the star’s most flamboyant outfits to raise funds to support the work of the Charity. There was an extraordinary response in 2010 and this year should be even bigger. |
Savoy to Host a Fantastic PartyA lavish birthday party at the Savoy in London has also been planned to celebrate the date and raise money for the Trust. Queen members Brian May and Roger Taylor will be among the hosts for an evening of tribute, comedy and rock n' roll music. Freddie apparel, including moustaches, will be worn in place of formal evening wear by every guest. Snap up you Moustaches Now!You don’t need to be a die-hard fan to take part in ‘Freddie for a Day’. Outfits and moustaches are available online via the Freddie for a Day website. Participants are encouraged to document their day, with fantastic competitions for ‘Best Costume’ and ‘Freddie in Most Original Location’ promising some excellent prizes. The radio station Absolute 80s is supporting the event and will be running a nationwide competition to find a Freddie look-alike. Listeners can win two tickets to the Savoy Gala by sending in pictures of themselves dressed in their best Freddie costume. Brian May to Appear in Mazz Murray’s Final Week? |
