This Little Piggy at the Novello TheatreBased on Alan Bennett’s film ‘A Private Function’, Betty Blue Eyes is Sir Cameron Mackintosh’s first original musical in more than a decade. Set in a Yorkshire town after the Second World War, the show follows the hilarious misadventures of the local residents who decide to raise a pig to eat at a lavish banquet in celebration of the royal wedding between Princess Elizabeth and Prince Phillip. However, with government rationing still being enforced, the adorable pig has to be hidden away when a fastidious food inspector starts poking his nose in. Closing on 24th September 2011 |

Speaking about the decision to close Betty Blue Eyes despite some of the best reviews seen for a brand new musical in many years, Sir Cameron Mackintosh said: "It is very curious - after such amazing reviews and positive word of mouth, no-one knows the real reason why Betty couldn't find a bigger audience. We have been consistently playing to just over 50 percent but it just isn't enough to cover the costs. Of course I am disappointed but I'm not despondent, I am enormously proud of Betty. I know that she will eventually have her day and another life." |
