Richard: Were you confident when you went for the Billy Elliot audition or was it very nerve-wracking for you?
Kaine: It was really scary. There were so many people, but each time I got another call back I got more confident.
Richard: Billy pursues his passion for dance despite the disapproval of his family. How important has the support of your own family been in making your dream a reality?
Kaine: Really important. They’ve been great – especially my mum she’s driven me around everywhere.
Richard: Has the show been everything you hoped it would be since making your debut? Do you get much chance to catch up with the other Billys?
Kaine: Yes, I love it! We (all the Billys) live together! We live in the same house. It’s great, there’s always someone around. We’re like a family and have breakfast together and stuff.
Richard: How do you keep up to date with all your school work while you’re training for the show?
Kaine: Our schools send the work we need to do and our tutors sit with us in the mornings before rehearsals in the afternoon.
Richard: Do you still keep in touch with your friends from home?
Kaine: All the time! They’re coming to see the show soon.
Richard: What’s your favourite bit of the show, and why would encourage someone to come and see Billy Elliot the Musical?
Kaine: My favourite bit is the finale, not because it’s over but because you get to have fun and be yourself in that bit. I’d tell people that Billy Elliot is a musical with so many different bits in it. It’s a musical where you don’t have to like musicals to enjoy it.
