Broadway Rumours for One Man, Two Guvnors

The National Theatre’s brilliant new comedy One Man, Two Guvnors could be bound for Broadway in 2012 according to rumours reported on BroadwayWorld from entertainment industry magazine Variety. Richard Bean’s adaptation of Carlo Goldoni’s The Servant of Two Masters has become a huge summer hit, and it was recently confirmed that the show will transfer to the Adelphi Theatre this autumn for a limited four month run. Updating the action of Carlo Goldoni’s classic play from 18th century Venice to 20th century Brighton, One Man, Two Guvnors sees Gavin & Stacey star James Cordon play ‘Francis Henshall’ - a minder to East End enforcer Roscoe Crabbe. Crabbe has been in some trouble with a rival gangland boss named Stanley Stubbers, a man who has gone into hiding from the police. When Francis finds Stubbers holed up in the Cricketers Arms, he can’t resist taking a second job, but must make sure that he keeps his two underworld guvnors apart. |
Love Never Dies Closing this MonthOne Man, Two Guvnors opened at the Lyttleton Theatre in May 2011, directed by Nicholas Hytner. James Cordon will be joined at the Adelphi Theatre by the original National Theatre cast members, including his ‘guvnors’ Oliver Chris and Jemima Rooper. One Man, Two Guvnors will tour prior to its West End transfer, with dates announced in Aylesbury, Plymouth, Salford, Birmingham and Edinburgh. Writer Richard Bean’s other plays include England People Very Nice, The Heretic, Harvest, Honeymoon Suite, Toast, The Big Fellah and Under the Whaleback. One Man, Two Guvnors will play at the Adelphi Theatre from Monday 21st November 2011 (following previews from Tuesday 8th November) to Saturday 25th February 2012. Love Never Dies, the sequel to Phantom of the Opera, will close on Saturday 27th August 2011. |
