Ugly Betty star America Ferrera will make her British stage debut as the publicity seeking murderess “Roxie Hart” when Chicago reopens in the West End next month. The Emmy, Golden Globe and Screen Actors Guild Award-winning actress swaps her trademark braces for fishnets from Monday 7th November 2011 for eight weeks only. She becomes the latest celebrity to play the role, following in the bloody footsteps of Jennifer Ellison, Denise Van Outen, Michelle Williams and Christie Brinkley. |
Opening on Monday 7th NovemberChicago finished its five year run at the Cambridge Theatre in August 2011 to make way for Matilda. The musical has found its third West End home at the Garrick Theatre and will begin its fifteenth year in the capital when it celebrates its birthday on Friday 18th November. The show won the 1998 Laurence Olivier Award for 'Outstanding Musical Production' as well as the 1998 Critics Circle Drama Award for 'Best Musical'. Chicago is London’s longest running American musical with sultry Bob Fosse-inspired choreography and unforgettable songs including 'When You're Good to Mama' and ‘All That Jazz’ Murder, Fame and All That JazzShowgirl Roxie Hart commits a cold-blooded murder whilst cheating on her husband which causes quite a stir in the gossip capital that is the ‘Windy City’ of Chicago. Whilst awaiting trial in an all-female cellblock, Roxie realises that her new notoriety might just give her flagging career an unexpected lift. Soon, with the help of a smooth-talking attorney, the press are razzle-dazzled and her rivals left in the dirt. But with showbiz such a fickle profession, can the ruthlessly ambitious Roxie really make her crime pay? Chicago is now booking until Saturday 26th January 2013 at the Garrick Theatre. |
