The newly crowned British Queen of Comedy, Miranda Hart, has set her heart on a West End debut. The comedienne, who picked up three awards at The British Comedy Awards on Saturday night, was speaking backstage after the event at the O2 Arena when she revealed her desire to switch to shows.

Hart said: "To just do something completely different would be really nice. "What I'd love to do is make my West End debut. That would be lovely and then I could write in the day though that is probably completely unrealistic."

The star, who was voted Queen of Comedy in a public poll during the awards, said she would "love" to play the part of the alcoholic orphanage matron, Miss Hannigan, in Annie.

The show was last revived in the West End at the Victoria Palace Theatre in the late 1990s, with Paul O'Grady (Lily Savage) memorably starring in the role!

Will and Grace Star Brings West End Laughs

Leslie Jordan

Elsewhere in the world of comedy, American TV star Leslie Jordan brings his hilarious Off-Broadway production My Trip Down the Pink Carpet to the Apollo Theatre this week.

Jordan is best-known for playing the pretentious 'Beverley Leslie', nemesis of the eccentric 'Karen Walker', in the hit US sit-com "Will and Grace".

The new autobiographical show sees the Emmy Award-winning actor explore his life as a performer moving from small-town USA to the pink carpet of Hollywood, with a personal take on fame, addiction, gay culture and learning to love oneself.
