Dangerous Dave Ready for West End Debut

Dangerous Dave Dangerous Dave, the pintsize pooch who won the Over the Rainbow canine competition to find a Toto to star in The Wizard of Oz, will make his West End debut this week at a special gala performance of the musical at the London Palladium. The Thursday night show will raise money in aid of Comic Relief and will be the only performance to feature Dangerous Dave instead of the show’s usual look-alike dogs. Dangerous Dave was handpicked by Andrew Lloyd Webber in the TV contest and has been training hard with Danielle Hope and the rest of the cast to perfect his stage directions ready for the big night!

Red Nose Day Raises Millions for Charity

The 23rd Red Nose Day was held on Friday 18th March 2011 and a huge £74.4 million had been collected by the end of the weekend. That total could be as high as £100 million once all the donations have been collected and counted. The money is being used to help set up eye clinics in Africa and also to fund a number of UK-based charities. The Wizard of Oz has announced that all profits from the sale of the special gala performance will go directly to Comic Relief.

Sophie Evans

Danielle Hope may have grabbed the headlines so far but Over the Rainbow runner up Sophie Evans is also making a weekly appearance in the high-profile show. Sophie began playing Dorothy on Tuesday evenings from the 08th March 2011. She will also appear for 7 performances in the weeks commencing 2nd May, 5th September & 12th September 2011. The Wizard of Oz cast also includes Michael Crawford as The Wizard and Hannah Waddingham as Miss Gulch/The Wicked Witch of the West.

L Frank Baum’s classic story is best remembered as the spectacular 1939 Technicolor movie starring Judy Garland as Dorothy. Andrew Lloyd Webber has collaborated with his old partner Tim Rice to produce a brilliant new adaptation with additional songs to enhance EY Harburg and Harold Arlen’s famous score - which includes such memorable tunes as ‘We’re Off to See the Wizard’ and the Academy Award-winning ‘Over the Rainbow’.
