Death and the Maiden to Close in December
![]() |
The West End revival of Death and the Maiden, starring Anthony Calf, Tom Goodman-Hill and Thandie Newton, will close early at The Harold Pinter Theatre. The show was originally booking until Saturday 21st January 2012 but will now play its final performance on Saturday 31st December 2011. The psychological thriller, written by Ariel Dorfman, has received mixed reviews from the critics. Until this year, it hadn’t been seen in London since its premiere at the Royal Court and transfer to the Duke of York’s Theatre in the early 1990s. |
A Woman Seeking Final JusticeThandie Newton plays former political prisoner ‘Paulina Salas’, a woman trying to rebuild her life after being released from a jail where she was abused by her captors. One evening, Paulina’s husband has car trouble and is helped home by a stranger named Dr Miranda. Believing him to be the sadistic prison doctor who raped her (a person she never saw but only heard speak) Paulina vows to extract a confession from the potentially innocent man. The title of the show comes from the music which Paulina’s tormentor constantly played - Franz Schubert’s Death and the Maiden Quartet.
