Destiny’s Child singer Michelle Williams join the London cast of Chicago this summer. Michelle has enjoyed huge success in Destiny’s Child, alongside Beyonce Knowles (who this week played two triumphant concerts at the O2 Arena) and Kelly Rowland, with such massive hits as Survivor, Bootylicious and Lose My Breath. This is the second US celebrity to take a role in the show this year; in February it was announced that chat show legend Jerry Springer would make his professional stage debut as Billy Flynn in the show from 1 June.

Michelle is no stranger to acting; she has starred as Naomi in US sitcom Half and Half and took on major roles in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Aida on Broadway and the US national tour of The Colour Purple. She will take to the Cambridge stage in her West End debut and she is the only member of Destiny’s Child to have acted on stage. She was recently cast as Foxy in a remake of 1974’s sexy action movie Foxy Brown, and the multi-talented Michelle will also produce the film’s soundtrack.
While Jerry’s appearance as lawyer Billy Flynn will run from 1 June to 11 July, Michelle takes over the role of Roxie from Aoife Mulholland on 13 July. It looks like the two stars will just miss each other, but no new Billy has yet been announced, so there’s a good chance that Jerry will extend his contract. Michelle will be appearing from 13 July to 22 August.

Chicago at the Cambridge Theatre is currently booking until October 2010 and you can grab your tickets here.
