Posted by Ben on Friday 18th December 2009 at 9:15AM

The Rise and Fall of Little Voice star’s Diana Vickers and Lesley Sharp have both been nominated in the 2010 WhatsOnStage Awards. The annual awards are the only ones to be voted for by theatregoers themselves. 18 year old Diana is the Lancashire girl who shot to fame on last year’s X-Factor. She has been nominated as Best Newcomer for the title role in the Vaudeville theatre production. Lesley Sharp has also been nominated for Best Actress in a Play.

A Wonderful, Funny and Moving Play

Jim Cartwright’s original '90s production, directed by Sam Mendes, made Jane Horrocks a star. The revival of The Rise and Fall of Little Voice is as funny and captivating as the original. Shy girl Little Voice lives in the shadow of her larger than life mother Mari. She spends hours alone in her bedroom with her dead father’s record collection, perfecting impersonations of divas from Shirley Bassey to Dusty Springfield. When Mari brings home her new boyfriend - club promoter Ray Say, a reluctant star is discovered.

Talented Cast

Actress Lesley Sharp (Mari) has appeared in a variety of film, television and theatre roles. She is best known by television audiences for ‘Clocking Off’ and the romantic drama ‘Bob and Rose’, starring alongside comedian Alan Davies. In February 2010 she will appear as ‘Mrs Alving’ in Ibsen’s Ghosts at the Duchess theatre. Marc Warren (Ray Say) is best known from his appearances in BBC drama’s ‘Life on Mars’ and ‘Hustle’.  Diana Vickers reached the semi-finals of the 2008 X-Factor. Her debut album is due for release next year.

The Rise and Fall of Little Voice runs at the Vaudeville theatre until 30th January 2010.
