Eastenders go West in Calendar Girls cast change
July 28 will see a complete change of faces for Tim Firth’s recently extended Calendar Girls, and those impressed by the show’s current stellar line-up will not be disappointed. |
The new cast includes Eastenders legend June Brown, famous worldwide as the iconic, chain smoking, bible bashing Dot Cotton. The second longest running cast member after Adam Woodyatt, who plays Ian Beale, June has appeared in other such high profile TV shows such as Coronation Street, Gormenghast and Doctor Who. A classically trained actress, her extensive stage credits have included A View from the Bridge, Rebecca and An Inspector Calls, and she has directed a number of fringe productions. |
June is just one name in what looks like a showcase for Eastenders fans young and old, as formers stars of the BBC soap have been added to the line-up. Jining June are (from second left) Jill Halfpenny, who played undercover cop Kate Mitchell, Brian May's wife Anita Dobson, who was the Vic's boozed up landlady Angie Watts, and finally Kym Marsh’s ex-husband Jack Ryder, who played the tragic Jamie Mitchell. |
Fashion icon Jerry Hall (above left) joins the line-up, making her first stage appearance in four years. Her most famous West End credits include The Vagina Monologues and The Graduate. In 2004 she broke the record for most theatrical appearances in one night, making cameo appearances in six West End shows in the same evening. Also included in the new line-up are Sara Crowe (above centre) and former Hollyoaks actress and lad mag regular Gemma Atkinson (above right). Calendar Girls currently stars Lynda Bellingham, Gaynor Faye, Brigit Forsyth and Patricia Hodge. Tickets are available here. |
