Gareth Gates Joins Hair the Musical Tour

Pop star Gareth Gates will appear in a UK tour of ‘60s tribal love rock musical Hair next summer. The international touring production, directed by Gary Lloyd (Thriller Live!) will open at the Liverpool Empire in April 2012 and tour through to mid-July. The Bradford born singer will take the role of ‘Claude’ - a young man swept up by the hippie counter culture, but who struggles with his conscience over the Vietnam War. The musical was last seen in the West End in the summer of 2010 when the acclaimed Broadway revival transferred to the Gielgud Theatre for a five month run. |
From TV Talent Show to West End StarGareth Gates rose to fame in 2002 when he finished second to Will Young in the first series of TV talent show Pop Idol. He has gone on to enjoy a hugely successful entertainment career - selling over 3.5 million records and making a triumphant West End debut in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat at the Adelphi Theatre in 2009. He joined the cast of Les Misérables in the role of love-struck revolutionary ‘Marius’ in October 2010 after impressing in the musical's 25th anniversary show. The Counter Culture RebellionHair follows the lives of a group of young Americans who struggling to balance their friendship, love and convictions with the Vietnam War and the obligations of the draft. Claude (the tribe’s nominal leader) faces a call up to the conflict. He looks to Berger (the tribe’s free spirit), and falls in love with student-activist Sheila. As the men burn their draft cards and grow their hair long, Claude is faced with an overwhelming dilemma - to resist the army as the others have done, or compromise his pacifist principles and step forward for his country. Hair features a sensational ‘60s soundtrack, including the songs ‘Aquarius’, ‘Good Morning Star Shine’ and ‘Let the Sun Shine In’. |
