Sondheim Role is Good Preparation

Waddingham has enjoyed a successful West End career, receiving Olivier Award nominations for her portrayal of ‘The Lady in the Lake’ in Spamalot and for the role of ‘Desiree Armfelt’ in A Little Night Music.

Other theatre credits for the actress include ‘Christine Warner’ in A Beautiful Game, ‘Satan’ in Rod Stewart’s Tonight’s the Night and ‘Rizzo’ in Grease at the show's former venue, the Victoria Palace Theatre.

A recent stint as ‘The Witch’ in Stephen Sondheim’s Into the Woods at the Open Air Theatre will also stand the actress in good stead for the upcoming Oz role, in particular the gruelling make-up routine.

The Wizard of Oz at the London Palladium

The Wizard of Oz, starring Michael Crawford and Over the Rainbow winner Danielle Hope, will open at the London Palladium on 01 March 2011 (previews begin 02 February).

The musical will include new songs written by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice, with choreography by Arlene Phillips.
