Hugh Jackman to Star in Houdini Musical

Hugh Jackman will star as illusionist Harry Houdini in a new Broadway musical written by the Academy Award-winning screenwriter Aaron Sorkin. The production, which will open in New York in 2013 or 2014, will feature music and lyrics from Wicked composer Stephen Schwartz and take a contemporary look at the life and death of the iconic escapologist and magician. Jackman played an illusionist in the 2006 film The Prestige and has previously spoken about his fascination with Houdini's story. His next project, meanwhile, will see the Australian-born actor play the lead role of Jean Valjean in the film adaptation of Les Miserables. |
Les Miserables Film Casting Completed?Casting for the Les Miserables movie is now rumoured to be complete with Sacha Baron Cohen (Thenardier), Helena Bonham Carter (Madame Thenardier), Anne Hathaway (Fantine), Eddie Redmayne (Marius) and Aaron Tveit (Enjolras) joining Hugh Jackman (Jean Valjean) and Russell Crowe (Javert) in the musical blockbuster. Offers have also been made to country-pop singer Taylor Swift for the role of ‘Eponine’ and Mamma Mia! star Amanda Seyfried for the part of ‘Cosette’, according to reports on BroadwayWorld.com. Shooting is due to begin in March, directed by Tom Hooper (The Kings Speech). |
