Imagine This announces early closure

Posted by Aldolpho on Monday 8th December 2008 at 11:19AM

Producers of new the New London’s Imagine This have announced that the show is to close two months early, with its last performance now on 20 December 2008.

Set in 1942, Glenn Benenbeim’s Imagine This tells of a troop of actors in the Warsaw ghetto staging a play based on the siege of Masada, drawing inevitable parallels between the persecution of Jews by the Romans and the events of the Holocaust. Although it received some kind reviews after opening, Imagine This has suffered poor ticket sales due to some damning press, including a heated argument between commentator Norman Lebrecht and the show’s producer Beth Trachtenburg which resulted in Trachtenburg giving away eight hundred free tickets for one performance.

Much of the show’s press has focussed on its controversial use of the Holocaust, but this does not take away from the stunning score by Shiki Levy and David Goldsmith, Eugene Lee’s ingenious design, Liam Steel’s breathtaking choreography and stellar performances by a brilliant and forceful cast including Peter Polycarpou, Leila Benn Harris, Richard Cotton, Simon Gleeson and Bernard Lloyd.

Imagine This had been booking until 28 February 2009, but performances will now continue to 20 December 2008. Tickets are available here.
