Is An Austin Powers Musical in Development?
![]() |
Comedy legend Mike Myers is said to be in talks about creating a new Broadway musical based around his legendary buck-toothed secret agent Austin Powers. Myers has already agreed to write and star in a fourth big screen instalment of the hugely successful film franchise (global takings of over $600m) which is likely to be released in 2013-14. The musical, which is reportedly being developed with the Tony Award-winning Book of Mormon co-director Casey Nicholaw, will tell the tale of how the spy got his mojo, and feature the ‘60s sounds of Burt Bacharach and Nancy Sinatra. |
The Super-Suave Secret AgentAustin Powers: International Man of Mystery hit cinemas in 1997 starring Mike Myers, Elizabeth Hurley, Michael York, Seth Green and Mimi Rogers. The plot parodies the many spy films of the 1960s, spoofing James Bond in particular, as a super-suave British secret agent named Austin Powers attempts to thwart the plans of the arch villain Doctor Evil. But first Powers must come to terms with the 1990s after being cryogenically frozen for 30 years to follow his nemesis into the future. Two further films have been released in the series - The Spy Who Shagged Me (1999) and Goldmember (2002). |
