The 2009 X Factor winner Joe McElderry will introduce performances of The Nutcracker at the O2 Arena with songs from his latest album, Classic Christmas. McElderry rose to fame after winning the sixth series of the ITV talent show after being mentored by fellow Geordie Cheryl Cole. He returned to the nation’s TV screens this year when he was the winner of Popstar to Operastar. He also signed a new recording contract with Universal Music. Classic Christmas is packed with seasonal favourites including: When a Child is Born, O Holy Night, Adeste Fideles (O Come All Ye Faithful) and the Christmas Number One contender Last Christmas. |
A Treat for Adults and ChildrenSir Peter Wright’s inspired version of The Nutcracker for the Birmingham Royal Ballet comes to the O2 Arena for six shows only from Tuesday 27th December to Friday 30th December 2011. This breathtaking production is a traditional retelling of E.T.A. Hoffman’s delightful story of Christmas Eve - The Nutcracker and the Mouse King - in which a young girl's favourite Christmas toy comes to life and whisks her away on a magical adventure. The show is a fantasy of toy soldiers, giant rats, snow fairies and Clara’s magical transformation into a beautiful ballerina. Music by Tchaikovsky includes the ‘Waltz of the Flowers’ and ‘Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy’. |
