Kimberley Walsh will join the cast of Shrek the Musical in October following the announcement that Amanda Holden will leave the show early after falling pregnant.

Amanda’s final performance as ‘Princess Fiona’ will be on Monday 3rd October 2011, with Kimberley taking over the role from Wednesday 5th October.

Amanda Holden Touched by Fans Support

In a statement, Amanda said: “Chris, Lexi and I are delighted to announce that I am pregnant and we are expecting a little girl. The first half of this year has been unbelievably difficult for us and so we are beyond delighted to share this news with you. My first priority is of course my family. I will therefore be adjusting one of my professional commitments accordingly. Due to its physical content this means I will end my contract with Shrek the Musical eight weeks early... I have taken medical advice and, although I am a strong girl and this is once again a good healthy pregnancy, I will absolutely not be taking any risks. Your ongoing support for us this year has been so touching. We are enormously grateful.”

Kimberley’s Passion for Theatre

Kimberley Walsh rose to fame as a member of Girls Aloud, alongside Cheryl Cole, Nadine Coyle, Nicola Roberts and Sarah Harding. The Girls have sold 10 million records and released five platinum selling albums since coming together in 2002. Kimberley originally trained in musical theatre and starred as the young ‘Cosette’ in Les Misérables when she was 12 years old. She returned to the production in the ITV2 documentary ‘The Passions of Girls Aloud’- singing ‘On My Own’, as ‘Eponine’ at the Queens Theatre in 2008.
