La Bête Revival
Joanna Lumley, David Hyde Pierce and West End favourite Mark Rylance are to star in a revival of La Bête. |
Star Cast
| David Hirson’s 1991 comedy will have a limited run from the 26th June until the 28th August at the Comedy Theatre and then transfer straight to Broadway. The new production will be directed by Matthew Warchus. Mark Rylance, who is currently enjoying huge success in the critically acclaimed Jerusalem, will play Valere, the low-brow street entertainer. David Hyde Pierce, who will make his West End debut, will play playwright Elomire and Joanna Lumley putting her tiara on as the princess. La Bête was last performed on Broadway at the Eugene O’Neill Theatre in 1991, where its cast included Michael Cumpsty, Tom McGowan and Dylan Baker. |
The Story
La Bête is set in 17th-century France and is performed in rhymed verse. The show tells the story of Elomire, a high classed classical playwright who loves only the theatre, and Valere, a low-brow street entertainer who loves only himself. When the fickle princess decides she’s grown tired of Elomire, he and Valere are left fighting each other to come out on top. Keep checking back to UKTicket's to see when tickets go on sale. |
