La Cage drags up Graham Norton
| It appears that after fronting all those talent searches with his new best friend Andrew Lloyd Webber, Graham Norton has caught the theatre bug as he makes his West End debut in La Cage Aux Folles. | |
![]() | Rumours have been abounding since the show transferred to the Playhouse after its sellout run at the Menier Chocolate Factory, and it has now been confirmed that Norton will be taking over the role of Zaza. Norton has some big high heels to fill as his predecessor Doulas Hodge received unanimous rave reviews in the role at the Menier and in the West End. Graham Norton is not new to the stage, having made his name in the early 1990’s with an award winning stand-up act. Nor is he a stranger to drag, as his early one-man shows often involved him dressing as a woman, more specifically, as Mother Theresa of Calcutta. Although widely known as a TV presenter, Norton also has a few acting credits under his belt, having starred in the ostentatiously titled films Stargay and Another Gay Movie, the British TV series Aristocrats, and as the irritatingly hyperactive Father Noel Furlong in Father Ted. It'll be interesting to see if he can sing though. |
| The fantastic La Cage Aux Folles is currently booking until 17 January 2009 and Graham Norton takes over from Douglas Hodge on 9 January to play out the show’s last week. Hopefully Graham will be enough of a draw to give the already extended La Cage yet another boost. Click here for tickets. | |
