Posted by Christine on Wednesday 30th June 2010 at 10:38AM

Lauren Samuels, finalist of ‘Over The Rainbow’, has already managed to secure her first West End role as Sandy in Grease

Reality TV

Samuels lost out to Danielle Hope in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s search to find a Dorothy for his new production of ‘The Wizard of Oz’, which opens at the London Palladium next March. Samuels’ first performance at the Piccadilly Theatre will be the 26 July 2010 and she will continue until the 22 January 2011.

She will take over the role from another ex-reality show star Siobhan Dillon, who was a contestant on ‘How Do You Solve a Problem Like Maria?’.  Ex-popstar Noel Sullivan will continue as Danny.

Speaking about the show

Speaking about the new role Samuels said : ‘I am so unbelievably excited to be joining the wonderful cast of Grease. It was one of the first musicals I was taken to see as a young child and so to be given the opportunity to recreate the iconic role of ‘Sandy’ and to make my West End debut in the show, is a dream come true. I feel like the luckiest girl in the world!’

Grease will celebrate its 3rd birthday this summer after it was revived in 2007. The show is directed by David Gilmore, choreographed by Arlene Phillips, and produced by David Ian and Paul Nicholas.
