Lee Mead enters Oz

Posted by Hannah on Thursday 20th May 2010 at 3:41PM

Joseph star Lee Mead gave an energetic performance last night as Fiyero in Wicked.

Fiyero

Mead, who started the role last week, has had much to celebrate this month with the arrival of his first child Betsy with TV host wife Denise Van Outen. Fiyero is the heart throb character of Wicked, something Mead has no trouble in portraying after he received a legion of fans when he won Andrew Lloyd Webber’s TV show ‘Any Dream Will Do’. Although not such a big role as Joseph, Mead makes a good Fiyero, with his singing voice suited well for the role.

Elphaba & Glinda

Rachel Tucker has taken over the role of Elphaba, performing outstandingly rivalling that of the ever popular Kerry Ellis. With belting songs 'Defying Gravity' and 'No Good Deed', everyone was waiting to see if Tucker could live up to Ellis’s standards and the answer was yes. Tucker is well known for appearing on ‘I’d Do Anything’, where she reached the semi-final stages for the role of Nancy in Oliver! Rachel recently finished playing Meat in We Will Rock You.

The elegant Louise Dearman excels in the role as Glinda, giving an outstanding comical performance, making the audience fall in love with her. Dearman is no stranger to the stage, having performed in national tours for Evita, Cats, Guys and Dolls, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat and Grease.

Other Cast Changes

Clive Carter has been welcomed into the role of the Wizard, having just left Priscilla Queen of the Desert after a one year stint as Bon the mechanic. Madame Morrible is played by Julie Legrand who is no stranger to the West End, having starred in Fiddler On The Roof (Savoy), See How They Run (Duchess), Arcadia (Haymarket) and House of Bernarda Alba (Gielgud).

Nessarose is played by Cassandra Compton, Boq by George Ure and Doctor Dillamond by Julian Forsyth.
