Mead shot to stardom after winning the BBC reality show Any Dream Will Do. The programme, broadcast in 2007, saw Mead cast as the lead in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat at the Adelphi Theatre from 2007 to 2009.

Until last month Mead could be seen playing Fiyero in the hit The Wizard of Oz-themed prequel Wicked at the Apollo Victoria Theatre.

Show Picks Up Three Laurence Olivier Awards

Mead will join the Legally Blonde cast alongside Susan McFadden (Elle Woods), Carley Stenson (Margot) and Peter Davison (Professor Callahan). Mead’s wife, Denise Van Outen, is currently appearing in the musical as beautician Paulette. It has not been confirmed if husband and wife will appear together in the show at the same time.  Legally Blonde was the undisputed West End champion at the recent 2011 Laurence Olivier Awards, winning three gongs including Best New Musical, Best Actress in a Musical (for former leading lady Sheridan Smith) and Best Supporting Role in a Musical (for Jill Halfpenny).

Musical is Top of the Class at the Savoy Theatre

Based on the 2001 Hollywood film, which starred Reese Witherspoon as the popular sorority girl Elle Woods, Legally Blonde the Musical opened at the Savoy Theatre in January 2010 to excellent reviews and quickly became one of the must-see West End shows.

When homecoming queen Elle Woods enrols at Harvard Law School in an attempt to win back her ex-boyfriend, she finds herself struggling for acceptance amongst the snobby students and stuffy academics. But Elle’s not a girl who gives up easily. She soon puts down the credit cards, hits the books, and heads for the top of the class!

Legally Blonde the Musical is currently booking until late 2011 at the Savoy Theatre.
