Les Misérables 25th Anniversary
Les Misérables has been wowing audiences in the West End and around the world for 25 years, making the show the longest running musical. To celebrate this tremendous achievement, this autumn the touring production of the show will come to the Barbican Theatre with the current show at the Queen’s Theatre continuing to perform.

First Time
It will mark the first time anywhere in the world that two productions of the same musical will play simultaneously in the same city. The limited run at the Barbican is from the 14 September – 2 October 2010. The show originally premiered at the venue in 1985. The tale of struggle and strife in revolutionary France has now been seen by 56 million people in 42 countries and 21 languages. |
The Show
With a magnificent score, stunning costumes and atmospheric staging, Les Misérables is an unforgettable theatre spectacle. Intertwining stories of hope, despair, revolution and redemption play out between the troubled days of the first and second French Republic. After 19 years in prison Jean Valjean is released on parole. Following this hardship he vows to begin his life anew. After changing his name he rises from the gutter to become a factory owner and mayor of Montreuil-sur-Mer; though his past life cannot be left behind. Years later, the city of Paris descends into civil unrest and the students prepare for revolution. As Valjean reappears in search of a young girl, the barricades are built and battle for the streets begins. | ![]() |
