Gavin and Stacey co-creator James Cordon has been starring at the South Bank venue in the comic production which has had critics purring with approval and crying with laughter. Written by Richard Bean, One Man, Two Guvnors is an adaptation of The Servant of Two Masters by the Italian playwright Carlo Goldoni. The show is due to go on a national tour from 27th September till 29th October 2011, after which it would be free to transfer to the West End and the Adelphi. |

Michael Billington for The Guardian ***** 5 Stars While Corden is central, there is a rich host of performances. Oliver Chris as Stanley is a walking monument to public school arrogance. Daniel Rigby as a would-be actor is a brilliant compendium of old-school theatrical mannerisms. Jemima Rooper as the male-attired Rachel has a wonderful macho swagger, and Suzi Toase gives full value to Francis's well-upholstered Brighton belle. But Bean has dispensed with the period Italian setting and relocated the action to Brighton in 1963, with many of the characters now members of the criminal underworld of that splendidly louche seaside town. Better yet, he has infused the show with a string of terrific jokes and comic routines of his own, while Nicholas Hytner’s production has a madcap joie de vivre and prodigally witty invention about it that proves irresistible.
